Not that there is anyone around to read this, we hope our minecraft server will bring a spark of life into this community. I am however reluctant to do any work on it until the full release of minecraft in November when there will be huge updates to bukkit and all the other plugins.

More things to come is the continued work on videos, live streams, and future game releases could mean starting up some guilds in games such as Guild Wars 2 which is coming in 2012 I believe (BETA in 2011?) .
Grand Theft Auto III coming to iOS and Android, but only the newest devices

If, like us, you felt that the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 were just incremental updates not worth the price of admission, you might want to think again. Rockstar Games have just announced that Grand Theft Auto III: 10th Anniversary Edition is destined for touch screen devices – but only the newest of the new. iOS gamers will need to own something that sports the A5 chip, and Android gamers will only be able to play on the Droid X2, HTC Evo 2, LG Optimus 2X, and Samsung Galaxy S2 (or if you’re on an Android tablet, an Asus Eee Pad, Motorola Xoom, or Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1).

No real details about the game itself are known at this point, but if we had to speculate, we’d expect the release to contain the original game with cleaned up visuals and straight-forward touch screen controls, and maybe some of the tweaks found in later games, like the ability to swim. Who knows? Maybe they’ll even throw in the content from the PSP release Liberty City Stories as a bonus.

Love it or hate it, Grand Theft Auto III redefined action gameplay and in-game storytelling. Even now, ten years later, it’s not going to be suitable for everyone – but for those it appeals to, this might just become the biggest mobile release of the year.

As of this writing, the release window is simply “this fall.” But considering this is the 10th anniversary release and the original was released on October 22, 2001, don’t be surprised if you get your hands on this one in the next 10 days. And if we’re wrong? Well... you can always pass the time with their earlier mobile release, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. Or just spend it in line at the Apple Store, begging for that 4S you’d previously written off as unnecessary.

According to an anonymous report BF3Blog received from inside Valve, the developer/publisher is currently in late-stage talks with EA in bringing Battlefield 3 to the Steam digital distribution service. The rumor says that Battlefield 3 would be available on Steam just in time for the game’s release on October 25.

According to the report, EA and Valve are very close to reaching an agreement regarding sales of DLC content, which is the main reason Battlefield 3 is not on Steam: Valve requires that all DLC is sold through Steam, while EA would prefer to sell via its own channels. This was the cause of another EA title, Crysis 2, for being pulled from Steam earlier this year.

Many PC gamers have lobbied both EA and Valve to put Battlefield 3 on Steam for a while now. It looks like it’ll finally happen soon.

We’ve reached out to EA and Valve for a comment on this story.

APB Reloaded Devs Fighting Cheaters With Fire

Cheating always seems to come as part of the package when playing an online game. The developers of the reborn urban combat based MMO, APB Reloaded have recently stepped up their attempts to destroy cheaters, people who regularly make games unfun to play or just people who took the “criminal” side of the game a bit too seriously. An awesome message on their Dev Blog serves as a bold warning to hackers who attempt to permeate their free to play MMO.

They recently launched a patch, Patch 130, which apparently killed almost every single cheater that had cheats installed from one of the three main groups that apparently work to hack the game. That is awesome news in itself. But the Devs took it even further.

They watched like predators and finally pounced on their prey, eliminating large swarths of cheaters, permanently banning people left and right. What is more amusing though, are the cheaters’ responses. The developers seem to have heard every excuse from the books, and they don’t really care if your friend gave you his cheating account, you’re done on their game if you cheated.

The Devs are not totally without mercy however, and are apparently offering amnesty. However, with their generocity comes a price to be paid in order to return to the world of APB. If you’ve cheated, you must prove you’re remorseful, first by uninstalling the cheats (which in some cases were root-kits) and then proceed to play cleanly, then they may (and the Devs stressed MAY) let you back into the game.

I wondered why anyone would cheat in a free to play game, and further, what could the consequences be? Well the developers have stated that almost 50% of the players banned were paid players, and that some had even spent large amounts of cash or played some around 1500 hours of the game. This alone raises large amounts of “WHY!? WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT!?” questions, but, who knows with the mind of a cheater.

Kudos to the developers of APB: Reloaded for taking a hardline stance on cheating and apparently sticking to this. It seems like it is one of those things you always hear about, but never really see anything done about. There are some pretty amusing tears shed by the hackers on their forums that the developers have posted on their blog, but I wont repost them here. Some of them contain some pretty strong language and even stronger tears.

CSGO on PC to be “different beast” than console versions

News of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s existence was met by an incredibly confusing mix of emotions from PC gamers. A new Counter-Strike? Yay! But wait, it’s gracing the unwashed, teabag-happy console masses with its presence? Boo. Also, Global Offensive? Isn’t that the one MMO with the jetpacks? No, wait. That’s a different thing. Like I said: confusing.

Fortunately, Valve assures that it’s not going to let console players rain grenades on your parade. The PC version, explained Valve’s Chet Faliszek, isn’t trying to be something it’s not.

“Yeah, so in some ways the PC will be a different beast anyway,” he told Strategy Informer. “There will be servers that we control, but then on the PC there will also be support custom servers, and at that point they’ll be able to mod the game. The way it’s set up now on CSS… you could enter a game and have no idea if the guys are going to be surfing whilst they’re shooting, or doing other crazy stuff. So we want to there to be a basic core experience, and equally if you want to go mod, you can.”

“We’ve been talking to the community, and we’re actually going to be incorporating ‘Gun Game’ into CSGO itself, as that’s the most popular mod out there at the moment, we wanted to give people a chance to approach the game from that angle.”

Interestingly, PC’s also the only platform getting any sort of CSGO beta, because console betas, well, aren’t real.

“That’s why we’re showing it on PS3, and why we showed at PAX on the 360, it’s the only way those guys are going to get to play it,” Faliszek said. “The PC Beta will be extended longer, because it’s not really a good model for doing betas, real betas, on the console. Other console betas have been more promotional demos. What we’re saying is that we want to do a beta that’s constantly changing and updating based on player feedback.”

Ah yes, yet another perk of being a member of gaming’s savviest, most mature community. So in your pockmarked prepubescent faces, console gamers! Er, I mean, fine wine, classic jazz music, and other mature… things. Right.

Things hit the fans recently on the BattleField 3 EA UK forums.

It seems that certain members of the community forum weren’t too happy when it was announced that Operation Metro was going to be the provided map during the beta testing period of the game. This announcement came AFTER DICE had previously claimed otherwise, that the Operation Metro wasn’t going to be used for beta. Apparently some fans had their hearts set on a different map to play during the beta ( one that would allow up to 64 players ) and became somewhat upset by the news.

When the complaints became loud a forum moderator shared his opinion on the matter:

Almost immediately after the mod hit the submit button on his post the entire thread was deleted, but not before someone made the above screen shot of it.

Was the mod’s response to the disgruntled fans in this case appropriate or over-the-top?

Borderlands 2 'Richer, Larger' Than Original

Anyone who's played Borderlands knows it has a lot of content. The game features customization options for weapons, vehicles, and just about everything in between. But according to a new interview with Borderlands 2's art director Jeramy Cooke, the sequel is set to be even bigger.

Speaking to Gamasutra, Cooke said that he wanted the game's environments to feel more varied.

"I wanted it to have a richer, larger world. I felt like we were stuck in the desert a lot, and it got monotonous," Cooke said of the first game. "It felt like you were seeing the same enemies too often. I mean, that's my personal experience. And we really wanted to just widen that and give you this sense of a huge space, which is why you can see the other maps from the maps you're in."

According to Cooke, those environmental changes will be accompanied by changes in the sequel's color palette.

"It's a subtle thing, but you feel it," he said. "You start off in that really cool icy area, and then you kind of go down through the tunnel and out into the hot springs area we have, and you'll see [it go] from really cool, cold purples and kind of red purples, and then across into the hot springs it really gets warm and kind of becomes green and tan and beige, with a little bit of red thrown in there. A lot of that is the same assets, but what you're seeing is the post-process adjusting the color values and color tone."

As for the game's graphics, Cooke says that everything will look drastically better thanks to the sequel's use of Unreal Engine 3.

"With Unreal 3, we have such a better command now of all the pixel shader stuff that we're able to bring in," Cooke said. "When you look at the ice shader, it's not just a static 2D toon texture, it's constantly adjusting based on the angle of light and how you face the rocks and so on. So we're putting a lot more high end realism stuff on top of the style to give it a lot more depth. So it's not just like cartooned, it feels more like a sort of digital matte to some extent. It's got a lot of some of those elements."

Cooke also confirmed that the game features a redesigned User Interface, allowing for splitscreen on PC. Update: Gearbox contacted IGN to clarify that the PC version will not actually support split-screen play.

"We're building an entire custom UI for PC, and the whole UI supports splitscreen," he said. "So we redesigned all the screens to be vertical and narrow so you don't have to do that weird pan-around thing from the first game. Nobody like that, including us, and we knew we wanted to do better. We knew we could. We kind of ran out of time last time, but this time we're going to hit it hard."

Borderlands 2 is set to release on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2012.

Cumulative weapon updates
Fixed a bug that cause the famas to fire burst rounds on uneven intervals (0.1 and 0.05). It now fires burst rounds with a fixed interval of 0.075.
Fixed bug for the bolt action sniper rifles that caused their zoom state to incorrectly toggle when holding down fire.
Fixed bug that would cause the suppressor state on the USP and M4A1 to not be accounted for correctly when the weapons were dropped with the suppressor attached and then picked up.
Fixed fast suppressor switch exploit
Decreased range of shotguns, while slightly increasing damage
Fixed reload animation issue with shotguns under high latency
Fixed bug which allowed a CT to defuse the bomb in the same frame that it exploded
When dynamic crosshair is disabled, the crosshair is now completely static.
Fixed a couple of issues with the view offset when dead was fighting with the observer code.
Fixed a bug where the client would have a ragdoll entity in CS, but wouldn't have actually created a ragdoll which would give a one frame glitch in the death camera position setup.
Scoreboard is now more robust with user modified layout changes
Added defuser icons to CTs on the scoreboard; these are analagous to the bomb icons for Ts, in that they only are visible for team members and spectators.
Defuser, bomb, and VIP icons are now colored by team color convar.
Bomb/defuser icons are no longer shown for members of the opposing team when you are not allowed to spectate them.
Updated player max speed cap so that it no longer limits players to 240 movement speed
Allow player max speed to be changed by mods
Killing friendly players no longer increments the player stat for kills with enemy weapons
Round no longer ends when timer runs out and mp_ignore_round_win_conditions is set
Players no longer get weapon donation credit for buying, dropping, and picking up the same weapon
Fixed crash related to planting C4
Fixed positioning of hud_targetid; it now is correctly visible in wide screen aspect ratios and when spectating.
Updated the multiplayer options UI so that it offers more options for configuring the crosshair.
Fixed an exploit where users could disable flashbang audio effects using alias commands.
Marked the "mat_diffuse" convar as a cheat to protect against exploits.
Fixed issue with buying multiple grenades when ammo_*_max were set to other than the defaults.

"We just uploaded Minecraft 1.8, but minecraft.net isn't up right now because of web ops stuff."

You can now load up minecraft and it will auto update. Many people did not have an idea it would be ready as soon as this, so for people like Craftbukkit, they are now rushing to get their 1.8 update out as soon as possible with a load of people rushing them to get it finished.

Lets hope they ignore them and get some nice coding done with little or no problems upon release and don't rush it.

Yesterday evening it came to notch's attention that the pre-release of the new minecraft 1.8 adventure update was leaked. It was first known by his following 3 tweets.

Quote:Twitter:

Notch: Ooh, looks like 1.8 has leaked, not that I'd ever admit that. Be careful when installing software you don't trust though.

Notch: If you do use it, remember to report bugs, and to feel slightly bad.

Notch: (I am fine with you using it. Make sure you get it from the leaked url we are hosting, though)

As you can see he was not that bothered by it, however he did stress that if you ARE going to play 1.8 then use the official leaked download from the Minecraft website and not from suspicious sources. They’ve decided to keep the link up so that people don’t get tricked into downloading fakes or malware.

Get it here - http://assets.minecraft.net/1_8-pre/minecraft.jar

The best way to get this working is browse to C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\ and make a copy of your .minecraft folder. Then browse to C:\Users\YOURNAME\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\bin and replace the minecraft.jar with the one you have just downloaded. Just make sure your old minecraft.jar is backed up incase you want to go back.

Here is our preview video of this pre-release.
